GR.1
Staff Authority & Enforcement

All staff decisions are final.

While staff strive to be fair and transparent, arguments, public disputes or attempts to undermine rulings will not be tolerated. If you believe an error has been made, you may raise the issue calmly and privately through the appropriate channels.(in a ticket)

Attempts to evade punishment, involve third parties or reframe situations dishonestly may result in escalated penalties.

GR.3
IC and OOC Separation

Out-of-Character emotions, conflicts and disagreements must remain OOC. In-Character actions or story events do not justify OOC hostility toward other players.

Likewise, OOC opinions, friendships or disputes may not influence IC actions, outcomes or targeting.

Players who are unable to separate in-character actions from out-of-character emotions are expected to step back by blocking or limiting interactions until they can engage appropriately again. If you do not wish to roleplay with another player, communicate this clearly with the other player rather than ignoring the situation. If the issue escalates or direct communication is not possible, please open a moderation ticket so staff can assist.

GR.5
Powergaming

Powergaming is any action that removes agency, consequence or reasonable response from others.
This includes:

Forcing outcomes without allowing reactions
Declaring unavoidable success
Ignoring injuries, limitations or narrative consequences
Playing characters who are effectively invincible or flawless

Your character is not immune to failure. We recommend using the term "attempt/attempts" when trying to do something to someone else's character.

OOC & Discord Conduct

OOC channels are for discussion, coordination and community interaction.

The following are not permitted:

Excessive drama or call-outs
Political or inflammatory debates
Spam or unsolicited promotion
Do not ping staff unnecessarily and do not DM without permission. Use proper channels for questions, reports or appeals.

Player Consent

Players must obtain explicit consent from all involved parties before engaging in any actions that significantly affect another character.

This includes, but is not limited to:

Manipulation or long-lasting injury
Romantic interactions
Kidnapping and/or jailing

If consent is not granted, the action cannot proceed.

Staff recommends using the word “attempts” when trying to engage in actions that significantly affect another character. Please see the PvP rules for combat rules that may overwrite this one.

Staff Dms

Staff dms are not the place to bring questions, suggestions, feedback or complaints. If you wish to do so please use the right channels, if you don’t want to be known then you are free to open a sensitive ticket for that reason. Only administration can see these tickets not all of staff.

GR.2
Respectful conduct

Players are expected to treat others with basic respect at all times.

Harassment, hate speech, discrimination, threats, intimidation or targeted hostility are not permitted. Regardless of intent, context or whether it occurs IC or OOC.

This includes:

Slurs or derogatory language

Repeated unwanted interaction
Passive-aggressive or hostile behaviour
Retaliation against players who report issues

“Joking” is not an excuse if harm is caused.

GR.4
Metagaming

Using information your character could not reasonably know is prohibited.
This includes, but is not limited to:
Acting on Discord conversations your character did not witness

Knowing hidden identities, locations or intentions without RP justification
Treating mechanical or staff information as IC knowledge
Not permitted: “Hearing”or otherwise perceiving actions or conversations through walls, floors or roofs.
Perception through windows or doors is permitted.

GR.6
Conflict, Combat &
Hostile Actions

All hostile actions must:

Be clearly telegraphed in roleplay
Allow reasonable opportunity for response
Follow server systems and rulings

You may not assume the outcome of violence, intimidation or coercion. Conflict should create story not shut it down.
No KOS.

Repeated abuse of combat or conflict systems may result in restrictions or removal.

GR.8
Rule Circumvention & Exploits

Attempting to exploit loopholes, stretch wording or “rules-lawyer” technicalities goes against the spirit of Rift Bound.

If staff determine behaviour is harmful...even if it is not explicitly listed. It may still be addressed. Rules exist to protect the community, not to be gamed.

Players are expected to try to resolve issues themselves before immediately involving staff. Constantly relying on staff for minor disputes or perceived slights, instead of taking personal responsibility, will not be tolerated.

Banned RP

Types of RP we do not allow here:

ERP
Pregnancy, child births or miscarriages
Suicide RP (Always Value your life)
Mind Readers or "thinking" out loud (Telepathy only okay though the RPR-Familiar ability)
Anything twitch would not allow
Breaking into someone home if not agreed in writing OOC before hand.

Pickpocket

Do not pickpocket NPC characters while they are being played. If they a have NPC tag above their head or is a type of monster they are not to be pickpocketed.
Staff Shops and other staff placed thalls are also not to be pickpocketed.

Clan Requirement

All players must be part of a mechanical clan, even solo players. This should be done before leaving the spawn room. You may change the name of the clan at a later date.

Clan membership must be maintained.

You have 2 weeks to replace a clan member,
The last person in the clan is required to delete your build before shelving/rerolling. If you have any issues open a ticket with staff.
A rerolling character must inform their clan leader of their departure from the clan.
If a clan is inactive for 14 days without notifying staff, the build may be removed. Please Open a ticket to let staff know about your time away.

BR.3
Build & Placeable Limits

Each individual may have:
500 build pieces
150 placeables

Clans with 10 or more members may have up to:
5,000 build pieces
1,500 placeables

Member count must be verified and whitelisted for clan allowances to apply. A clan member that hasn't been active for 2 weeks no longer counts towards building limits. You have an additional 2 weeks to fill their spot.

Deco Item Limits

Each clan is allowed max of the following:

1 Build box
6 Crafting/Processing benches (Campfires not included.),
5 Storage containers + 1 personal container per clan member,
1 active Birdcoop/mail box,
2 Fishtraps,
2 Beehives,
max 10 Planters per clan, 2 per person
1 Animal Pen & 1 Horse Stable,
max 5 placeable Animals (like the svs animals or similar)

Each player may have the total of 2 of the following:

Mounts, pets or thralls(excluding crafting/workers)

If staff believe a base or placed items are causing server lag, staff reserve the right to remove or delete those items without notice.

Architectural Standards

Building Guidelines

Builds must be functional, lore-appropriate to their race/culture, and fit the setting.
No honeycombing, exploitative PvP-tactic structures, or comically unrealistic designs (e.g., unsupported floating towers, giant cubes).
Players may build on unusual or hard-to-reach terrain if there is an IC reason, but bases must still appear architecturally sound, culturally appropriate, and functional for the region.

Maintaining lore and RP consistency is imperative. If you are unsure about your build, please open a ticket to discuss it with staff.

BR.2
Distance Rules & Locations

If you wish to build near sensitive locations (such as inside instances or near one-way entrances), you must obtain staff approval via ticket before building.

Builds must not block established pathways or roads on the map unless the build is located at the end of that path. This is to ensure safe and unobstructed travel for mounts throughout the lands. You may build alongside a road, provided the road remains fully passable and players may ride through your settlement without obstruction.
Gates may not be placed in a way that restricts public passage.

Admin Distance
Must not build within 100 foundations of Admin Builds such as:

Towns,
Traveling systems, (portals or carriages)

Clan Distance

Clan bases must be smaller than 80 tiles apart (edge to edge),
Clan bases must be 80 tiles apart from another clan.,

BR.4
Clan Rules

Creating sister clans is not allowed.

“Sister clanning” is defined as forming a separate clan that functions as a direct extension of another. This includes, but is not limited to, clans sharing leadership, resources or other coordinated structures.

Only put down a Magic circle if it is currently being used for RP. Do not keep them placed down.

Temporary Builds & Paths

Temporary builds, camps or points of interest (POIs) are not permitted by default.

Any temporary structure requires a staff-approved ticket stating the reason and time limit for the build.
Temporary camps or POIs may be approved on a case-by-case basis and must follow the size and duration limits set by staff.
Moving a base that can be completed in under one hour with both areas occupied does not require a ticket. For moves taking longer than an hour, a ticket must be opened with staff as soon as possible.

Build Performance & Optimization

Players should be mindful of the performance impact of their builds. Avoid stacking placeables at excessive densities or using too many torches, moving items(like trees) or fireplaces. As this can cause lag and issues for other players.

Be conscientious with Tot Mannequins and their accessories, as they may cause items to appear missing or rooms to appear empty on lower-end machines while lagging some players.

Staff may request adjustments if a build is deemed to use excessive placeables or mannequin accessories, to ensure the server remains playable for all.

If you are unsure whether something is excessive or need advice on reducing lag, you may open a General Support ticket for guidance.

Lore Compliance

Characters must adhere to the established lore of Rift Bound. All races, classes, cultures, abilities and origins must be accurately portrayed according to the setting. Players are expected to read and understand the relevant lore before submitting a character for whitelisting.

Real-world references or actions that break immersion are not permitted.

Exceptional powers or unusual concepts require staff approval and must be clearly outlined in your whitelist. Players are responsible for confirming staff approval.
All characters must have reasonable limitations and vulnerabilities.

Staff reserve the right to request changes to, or deny, any character that disrupts balance, tone or narrative consistency.

Character Balance

Please understand all characters have their strengths and weaknesses. Please RP with them in mind.
Characters must have reasonable strengths, weaknesses and limitations.
No character should be impossible to defeat, infallible or immune to realistic consequences.
Special equipment, items, abilities, powers or resources may require staff approval, especially if they significantly alter balance.
The player is responsible for confirming with staff on their request in their whitelist app.

Reroll & Shelving

Players may have only one shelved character at a time,
All rerolls and shelving require a general support ticket,
Players must create a Discord thread in ⁠"rerolls-n-shelving" stating intent to reroll or shelve.
Please including:

Character name
Current class and class tier
Character backstory(recommended for easier unshelving)
Characters above Copper tier must include a in game screenshot showing character name and class rank

Once the ticket and post are made, a mandatory 24-hour waiting period begins. While waiting no new storylines may be started involving the character. Characters cannot be unshelved during the 24-hour waiting period.
After creating a new character, the player may not reroll or shelve again for 2 weeks

Unshelving a Character

Unshelving requires a general support ticket

A character may only be unshelved after 2 weeks
Players must notify staff if they are rerolling back to a previously shelved character within their whitelist.
Staff may request updates or adjustments due to lore, mechanical or balance changes.
Unshelving may be denied or delayed at staff discretion.

Staff Discretion

Repeated rerolling, shelving or unshelving is frowned upon.
Rerolling to avoid consequences may result in restrictions or disciplinary action.
Staff reserves final authority on all reroll and shelving decisions.

Abilities & Powers

Characters are not superheroes; they cannot perform feats beyond their training, natural human limitations or the setting rules.

Rare or extraordinary abilities, powers or magical concepts require explicit staff approval before use.

Players may add customised flavour to how abilities are portrayed for roleplay purposes, including written descriptions or use of TOT, provided this does not alter mechanics, power level or outcomes. Flavour must remain lore-appropriate and cannot be used to gain unfair advantages.

Contesting a Reroll/Shelf

Characters may reroll their class once.
Class reroll:

Resets the character to the lowest tier of the new class
Must make sense with ongoing RP,

Additional class rerolls require staff approval.

During the 24-hour waiting period, players may contest a reroll or shelving by opening a Player Report ticket.
Contests must include evidence of a genuine unresolved conflict or ongoing narrative involving the character.
Frivolous or bad-faith contests will not be considered.
If no valid objection is raised within 24 hours, the reroll or shelving is approved.

Magic Exists to Create Stories

Magic is a tool for storytelling, not a way to bypass it.

Every spell should create opportunities for roleplay, conflict, or character development rather than instantly solving problems. Magic should enhance the experience of everyone involved, not remove meaningful interaction or another player's agency.

Respect Character Progression

Characters may only use spells, rituals, and magical abilities they have legitimately learned through roleplay, progression, approved mechanics, or staff approval.

Players may not roleplay abilities their character has not yet earned or mastered.

When roleplay and mechanics conflict, server mechanics always take priority.

Magic may influence the environment during roleplay, but permanent changes to the world require staff approval.

This includes, but is not limited to:

* Permanent magical structures.

* Long-lasting enchantments affecting public areas.

* Altering landscapes or settlements.

* Lasting magical hazards or anomalies.

Temporary magical effects created during roleplay are encouraged when they fit the scene.

Illusions, mind-affecting magic and similar abilities exist to encourage roleplay... not remove player agency.

Unless supported by approved mechanics, these spells should influence, confuse, distract, or deceive rather than force another player's thoughts, emotions, or actions.

The target player always retains final control over how their character responds.

Magical weapons, artifacts, enchanted equipment and relics may only be obtained through approved server systems, events, crafting mechanics or staff approval.

Unique Abilities & Magical Trade-offs

Unique magical abilities, blessings, curses, enchanted items, bloodlines or other custom concepts require staff approval.
Any unique ability that grants a benefit must also include a drawback that is equal to or greater than the benefit it provides. The drawback must have meaningful and ongoing roleplay consequences and may not be trivial, optional or easily avoided.

Unique abilities exist to create interesting characters through sacrifice and consequence, not to provide free power. Players may not use unique abilities to establish themselves as inherently superior to others. You may describe your character as having become stronger in a particular field because of their ability, but you may not claim to be the strongest, the greatest, or otherwise objectively superior to other characters.

Permitted Examples:
"My enchanted necklace slowly consumes my soul, but in return greatly strengthens my affinity for dark magic."
"My attunement has made my lightning magic more powerful, but it has permanently damaged my nervous system, causing constant pain and tremors."

Not Permitted Examples:
"My necklace makes me the strongest dark mage in the land."
"My bloodline guarantees I am stronger than every other fire mage."

Magic should always be roleplayed before its effects occur.

Significant spells should include enough roleplay for others to understand what is happening and, where appropriate, give them an opportunity to react.

Unless supported by approved server mechanics, magic should never produce unavoidable or instant outcomes.

Characters only know what they have learned through roleplay.

Knowing another character's magical abilities, weaknesses, spell list, or secrets without discovering them through roleplay is considered metagaming.

Magical knowledge should be earned through study, observation, experimentation, or interaction.

Ritual Magic

Powerful rituals require preparation, materials, time and meaningful roleplay.

Large-scale rituals that could significantly affect multiple players, settlements, the world, or ongoing storylines may require staff approval before they are performed.

Rituals should always feel significant, never routine.

The Nature of Magic

Magic is neither a gift nor a right. It is a dangerous discipline that demands years of study, practice, and sacrifice.

Most people naturally find themselves drawn toward a particular magical path. Some discover certain forms of magic come more easily than others, whether through temperament, upbringing, or something deeper within themselves. This natural inclination is only a tendency, not destiny. With enough dedication, training and perseverance, a person may choose whichever magical path they wish to follow.

Every spell must be learned through roleplay, study, and experience.

Magic is fueled by the body's natural mana, but mana alone cannot produce a spell. The soul acts as the catalyst, shaping raw magical energy into a physical form. Whether conjuring flame, calling lightning, or healing a wound, every spell passes through the caster's soul before entering the world.

Because of this, every spell leaves a faint imprint upon the soul. These changes are almost impossible to notice at first, but years of spellcasting gradually reshape the caster's emotions, instincts, personality, and sometimes even their physical appearance. The more a mage embraces a magical path, the more deeply that magic becomes woven into who they are.

Multi-Path Mages

Some mages choose to study multiple magical paths, seeking versatility rather than specialization.

While this offers greater flexibility, it also places greater strain upon the soul.

Multi-path mages often experience:

Slower mastery of each magical discipline.
Greater emotional conflict as different magical influences shape their personality.
Increased mental and spiritual fatigue.
More noticeable physical and behavioral changes over time.

The more magical paths a mage studies, the more difficult it becomes to maintain harmony between them.

Magical Influences

Each magical path slowly changes those who dedicate themselves to it. These changes are gradual, developing over months or years rather than overnight. Fire

Born from passion, determination, and rage.
Fire mages often become increasingly impatient, impulsive, and quick to anger. Their emotions burn brighter with every passing year.

Water

Drawn from patience, adaptability, and restraint.
Water mages become calm and composed, but may struggle to express strong emotions or form deep personal attachments.

Earth

Rooted in endurance, resolve, and stability.
Earth mages grow dependable and resilient, though they often become stubborn, inflexible, and resistant to change.

Air

Embodies freedom, movement, and curiosity.
Air mages become restless and adventurous, finding it difficult to remain in one place or commit themselves for long.

Shadow

Drawn toward secrecy, deception, and hidden truths.
Shadow mages often become increasingly isolated, paranoid, and uncertain where truth ends and illusion begins.

Light (Divine)

Built upon compassion, devotion, and self-sacrifice.
Light mages increasingly place the needs of others before their own, often neglecting themselves in pursuit of a greater purpose.

Blood

Fueled through sacrifice and life itself.
Blood magic creates an ever-present temptation to seek greater power, leaving many practitioners obsessive, reckless, and addicted to the strength it offers.

Rift

The least understood and most unstable magical path.
Rift magic weakens the bond between body and soul. Practitioners may experience missing time, dissociation, spatial distortions, paralysis, or the unsettling feeling that part of themselves never fully returned.

There is no limit to the magical paths a person may choose to study, though very few ever master more than one or two.

Every magical path leaves its own unique imprint upon the soul. As a mage learns additional disciplines, those influences begin to overlap, placing greater strain upon both the mind and soul. While learning multiple paths is possible, balancing their effects becomes increasingly difficult.

Each magical path changes the caster in different ways and those changes should naturally be reflected through roleplay. The more paths a mage embraces, the more pronounced and complex those influences become.

Obsessions tied to a magical path.
Physical changes influenced by the magic they wield.
